Progressive Republicans

From Building a Progressive GOP:

What is a Progressive Republican?

A Progressive Republican
  • believes in the defense of the nation, but will not betray Constitutional principles out of fear
believes in justice and the rule of law
  • acknowledges that there is a difference between freedom and unbridled self-interest
believes that with rights come responsibilities
  • believes in equality of opportunity, but not in the undue interference of the state in private lives
  • believes that all public servants, elected, appointed and hired, are ultimately accountable to the people
  • believes that free enterprise is the driving force of America's wealth, strength and vitality, but also that the involvement of the Federal government may be desirable and necessary in certain areas
  • believes in traditional family values while acknowledging liberty and justice for all
believes in rule by the majority and also in the rights of minorities
  • believes that education is a matter for individual states apart from ensuring that individual rights are protected and funding fairly administered
  • recognises the difference between a handout and supporting the less able and helping them to prosper.

-----------------------------------------------------

Here are many things that comprise what many are calling "Progressive Republicans." I'm sure there are more, but these are things I found on another blog and are things I believe I can agree with.

You've just described the Democrats from my part of the country James. Welcome to the Party Brother.

I wonder what part of the U.S. that would be where Democrats believe in little governmental interference? The bottom of Lake Erie?

It certainly isn't the current administration you guys continue to comsume kool aid for.

What you've described is a progressive Democrat. If Progressive R's and progressive D's are so similar, maybe we need a 3rd party that dismisses both radical tree huggers and reactionary ditto heads in favor of rational centrism.

Hi James, I found your blog by way of Swash Zone even though I am not liberal at all. Actually I really have no idea where I seem to fit in anymore. I am a Christian and conservative, yet I have a very realistic approach and am not always a favorite to radical conservatives. I'm not sure I would fit the role of progressive republican either. That's the story of my life.....have my own ideas and don't seem to fit in with any particular party.

I am really enjoying reading your blog, and even the last one with the 58 comments. Interesting to say the least.

Republicans definitely need to get in touch with different people in different generations without pissing off those that lean toward Conservatism. I don't envy them, they certainly have their work cut out for them.

I'm adding you to my blogroll and will definitely be back.

What is a progressive republican?

More importantly what is a progressive period!
Well in the case of " Progressive Eruptions"
A few clowns short of a circus.
A few fries short of a Happy Meal.
An experiment in Artificial Stupidity.
A few beers short of a six-pack.
Dumber than a box of hair.
A few peas short of a casserole.
Doesn't have all her corn flakes in one box.
The wheel's spinning, but the hamster's dead.
One Fruit Loop shy of a full bowl.
One taco short of a combination plate.
A few feathers short of a whole duck.
Elevator doesn't go all the way to the top floor.
Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
The lights are on, but nobody's home.
24 cents short of a quarter.

Phantom Man: You could've just said you disagree.

Instead, you come here and write some drivel about hating Shaw. Thanks buddy. You're a tool.

Unknown said...

What the hell are you talking about? Because people disagree with you they're my friends?

You big baby. Perhaps if you weren't so rude and bitter, then you wouldn't have people bothering you.

I can get you some Texas Cheese for your whine, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Unknown said...

Keep calling me names, shaw. I'll make it even worse. Especially since I wasn't doing anything wrong.

James' Muse said...

Pitbull, even though you aren't sending them to her site, they are reading your blog and going to hers to attack her without any regard to her post or whatnot. Most of them have never even spoken with Shaw before but are reading your entry and then trolling hers, picking fights over nothing.

Unknown said...

That's your opinion. She attacked me first. She came to my site awhile back and hit me up on my grammar.

I discouraged people from going to her site, but I can't control people, so don't try to put this on me.

If you don't want me here, please say so.

James' Muse said...

I never said that Pitbull. And I wasn't blaming you. In fact, you tell people at that same entry that they should avoid hit and run tactics. Too bad they aren't listening. I was just letting you know what your readers are up to.

James,

I'm sorry to have this happen on your blog.

I apologize for anything I've said or done that contributed to hijacking this thread.

Unknown said...

Wow. There you go. Typical leftist BS. When you sense any form of anger, shift center.

I don't think that she hijacked the blog, anyway. I just won't be called names by her and her little group over there. Especially when I've tried to avoid them, but my name keeps coming up, anyway.

WE believe in the corrct amount of government oversite BPB. Unlike you and the disciples of Ronald Reagan's "voluntary compliance." That worked real well, huh?

Also, as a good liberal, I am proud of Shaw and all womankind for the thorough thumping she's been giving the righties lately. You go girlfriend!

Unknown said...

Yeah, she's really a he, but, that aside. You guys push, I push back.

You delete my comments at your sites, no problem, don't mention me anymore then.

You can try to alter history all you want, but unless you get a time machine, it's not going to happen.

We have the biggest loser playing president on the big screen and you guys in the begging position trying to get scraps from him. If you really thought he was a moderate to get back on track here, you guys wouldn't defend him so vehemently. It makes me question how much of a moderate James is, as well.

James' Muse said...

What do you mean, Pitbull? I'm not always defending him "vehemently." In fact, just one post down I'm criticizing him for something I'm disapointed in.

Unknown said...

Notice how I put you last? I meant the others.

But, I recently found out you voted for him, too.

The Republican party is not a party of moderates. If the new poll numbers on conservative leaning people are any indicator.

I like you, but not everything that you say do I agree with.

James' Muse said...

I know. Nor do I agree with everything you say.

I DID vote for Obama, but barely. I really struggled with the decision. I was actually abroad and voted by absentee. I wasn't one of those that just voted because I felt like it; I compared campaign promises and platforms and experience, etc. I actually got into quite a few arguments with people that were voting either way because they were only voting because their families were voting that way with no opinion of their own.

I'm a moderate, or progressive, Republican. Doesn't mean I always have to vote "R."

Unknown said...

It's OK, James. As long as you don't do it again.

Hopefully we don't have to endure the entire four years with him.

I think you are among the many who are quickly becoming disillusioned with him.

Where did you vote absentee from? This is interesting.

James' Muse said...

We'll have to see how he is the next few years, and who is going up against him. I might add (though my lib friends will not like it) I voted for GWB in '04. Even though I wasn't Bush's biggest fan, Kerry was a joke. You can't run only on a "I'm not the incumbant" platform. If the GOP have a strong candidate I'll most likely go that way, but it all depends I think. We'll know more as the blogging progresses.

I was studying abroad in Southern Mexico, finishing my degree in Spanish. It was my last semester. It was definately interesting voting from abroad, especially watching all of the politics from an election year. It was also interesting watching CNN in spanish on election night to watch the results.

Unknown said...

So, do you like Latin American Spanish or Castillian? I find Madrid Spanish hilarious. Their rr's are fun to watch and they don't move their upper lips. I spent last year in Germany watching TVE out of Madrid to keep up my Espanol.

Funny cause the other day someone made a proposal for Esperanto to be the international trade language. I don't think most Americans could learn it, let alone Spanish.

James' Muse said...

haha, I prefer Latin American spanish. Castillian is hilarious, with their lisped c's & z's...I was required to study abroad for my major. I had three choices: Spain, Costa Rica, or Mexico. I learned all my spanish on mission trips to mexico, so I didn't want to go to Spain and be told my Spanish was "wrong" (which happened to a few of my classmates), so I chose Costa Rica. Unfortunately, my professors said the program went downhill and all I would be doing was going to the beach and surfing instead of learning (they were on to me!) so they switched me to Mexico.

Unknown said...

Funny. If you ever want to watch TVE, it's online, too.

James' Muse said...

I'll have to check that out sometime.

James' Muse said...

Btw, I sent you an email pitbull. Didn't know if you got it.

Unknown said...

Which email did you use? Could you resend please?

James' Muse said...

It was the one linked on your profile...phelps.david@gmail.com?

Unknown said...

Got it dude.
Yeah, hope I answered your question.

Classy statement Pitbull:

"Hopefully we don't have to endure the entire four years with him."

If theyt keep Guantanimo open maybe you will get a room there buddy. You would if Cheney was still in charge.
